Whether you're looking to becoming a professional or just have an interest in leather accessories, our handbag, footwear and leather courses offer something for everyone. 


The courses are headed by Anthony Vrahimis, the founder of AV Studios. Beside teaching at the studio, Anthony has years of experience from teaching at the University of Arts London 


If you can't find what you are looking for from the menu, please contact us to discuss the options. Beside the courses, AV Studios can organise private tuition and bespoke courses for larger groups.


All courses are held in our fully equipped leather studio in North London. 




On all courses longer than two days a 25% non-refundable deposit is charged when booking and the remaining 75% is to be paid latest a week before the course starts. An additional top up Saturday is provided if you miss a day. With doctors note additional Saturdays can be provided.  All short courses are to be paid in full within a week of booking. A course day is from 10.30 to 17.30. Lunch is not included in the price. We accept credit cards through PayPal.

Handbag Pattern Cutting Course

Hand Bag Pattern Cutting  (MAX 8 people)


This is a beginners level course, no previous experience required. 


Good pattern cutting is fundamental to the process of any bag design to a final product. Mastering pattern cutting will make you a better accessory designer or this course could be the first step towards a career in accessories. The course will give you a strong technical understanding of the construction of hand bags.  


Students learn how to convert sketches into technical drawings (hand drawn) for specification sheets and how these drawings will be transformed into patterns and 3D mock ups. This course does not include any sewing.


- Drawing of basic 3D shapes and introduction to technical specification sheets

- Pattern cutting techniques for all 10 handbag concepts

- Pattern development

- Making paper and cardboard 3D mock ups

Introduction to Machining

This is a beginners level course, no previous experience required. Combined with the pattern cutting course, the Introduction to Machining, will provide the skill set for making bags. (We recommend doing the pattern cutting course first, but the two courses can be done in any order)


You get to complete a small leather washbag (or something similar) to keep.


- Learning and understanding the mechanics and proper use of the industrial leather sewing   machine 

- Learning and understanding the use of leather skiving machine and the clicking press.

- Learn how to machine 

- Exercises to improve machining skills 

- attaching zips onto bags 

- Machining different constructions and seams 

- Attaching gussets onto bags

Beginners Level Handbag Making Course



This is a beginners level course, no previous experience required.


This course will teach you the basics of creating a luxury leather or canvas bag. You can choose from three bag models to make one of your own. All materials are included, we have a good selection of leathers and materials to choose from. 


  • Learn how to understand bag patterns

  • Learn how to cut, construct and machine a handbag

  • Learn how to edge treat and finish leather

  • You will complete a bag of your choice


Intermediate Handbag course



The intermediate and advanced hand bag making courses are designed to be taken after you’ve completed the pattern cutting- and machining course. If you have previous experience from leather goods, please contact us and we can discuss whether any of these courses are suitable for you.


Intermediate Hand bag making and design course (MAX 8 people)


This course will teach you all you need to know about creating a luxury handbag of your own design. You can have finished designs or initial ideas, we will help you to realise your plan.


- Intro to leather as material; different types of leather and their use

- Material sourcing; how to source and where to buy leathers and fittings locally

- Design research and initial designs Introduction to specification and material sheets

- Design development Mocking up, experimentation and making of the final product 


Mocking up and testing materials are included in the price. You can also use our leather selection at the studio. Leather or fabric to match your design to be purchased at your own cost.

Advanced Handbag making Course



The tutored advanced handbag making course is aimed for people who already know the basis of handbag making. You can come with your design and you’ll have the full support of our teaching team to help you realise your design from sketch to final product. 


Mocking up and testing materials are included in the price. You can also use our leather selection at the studio. Leather or fabric to match your design to be purchased at your own cost.
